Server Death
Author: RR_DF_RaptorRed :: Posted: Sat Dec 08, 2007 12:09 am

A few days ago, the hl2files.com server on which this site and forum is hosted suffered a fatal crash. Which means we lost everything to do with the site. Now, I had backed up the forums in July, so this is the point of the restoration of the database. All newer topics are lost, unless one of the other admins has a more recent backup.

There are still pages and pictures missing. I know about this, but I hadn't backed those up, so just be patient until I can get everything running and looking good again.

Thanks.

Greetings, fellow Half-Life² mod enthusiasts. Just a little update from us here at the DI squad. We have released a video hilighting a few moments of actual gameplay for the mod, which is still under construction, but making great progress. The video is approximately 3 minutes long and can be downloaded at this link ( WinRAR is required for you to be able to open the file). Pure unadulterated uncensored dino-on... well, HL² action at its finest right there. That's just what we're at right now, imagine what it'll look like once the final edition is done! Now then, even though the mod is making great progress, we are still in dire need of coders- please, if you're an experienced coder, show off your stuff to the DI team and you can probably get on board this juggernaut (bitch) before it's too late.

Upcoming Beta
Author: CrazySketch :: Posted: Thu Aug 24, 2006 10:16 am

WE ARE NOT EXTINCT! It has come to the team's attention that there is quite a distance to go when it comes to completing the entire concept due to a lack of staff members. However, because the team hates making their loyal fans wait, they plan on releasing a series of mini-betas soon. Meanwhile, in an attempt to reach the final point in the project, the team will continue a search for more modders! Right now, experienced coders are needed the most!

As for the first mini-beta, it must be noted that it WILL NOT be the full game, but a taste of what's to come. It will most likely include the deathmatch mode and, possibly, the team battle aspect. Basically, an all-out multiplayer war.

According to CrazySketch, "Our main objective is to release a small working beta. The only model done will be the raptor. This beta will only be a death match and possibly a team battle. The Raptor will more than likely have many textures to distinguish you from the others. (If team battle is available there will be sets of colors for each team. For example, light or dark colors). The uniqueness about this small beta of course is playing as a dinosaur using the melee combat action style and the power-ups that will be found on the floor."

The reason behind this idea is that, according to Sketch, again, "Mark, Red and I decided that nothing will get release if we don’t release what we got now to the public. This should be beneficial in terms of expanding our community and to show people we are a serious mod team when it comes to modding therefore more recruits." After a small release, the team plans on releasing upgrades over time, as the community grows and the game improves. Sketch said, "All mods do this… why can’t we?"’

In other news Zirty and Anubis-Ra has joined Team Raptor’s mapping department. Zirty has completed TriasCanyon and now working on CretaceousCave. Right bellow that Anubis-Ra is working on di_ghetto.
Last but not least RaptorRed threw a raptor animation together for fun (no real rendering).

Media Update - 7/3/06
Author: R-T-B :: Posted: Sun Jul 02, 2006 10:52 pm

Dino-Instinct is far from extinct and we have proof! While it's been mostly quiet on the media update side, DI has, in fact, made some progress towards the much-anticipated final release. How anticipated is this release, do you ask? Well, it's been mentioned in Britain's own PCZone magazine (Article here ).

Various renders by the modelers have also been released for the public to view. The following links contain images of mdogger's Tarchia. For those of you who don't know, the meaning of the name, Tarchia, is "brainy," it was a herbivore, with a length of about twenty eight feet on average, and a general height of ten feet. It weighed in at a massive five tonnes, and generally resided around the continent of Asia in the late Cretaceous time period. It's a member of the Akylosaur family, and it used the big, bony portrusion on its tail for defense against carnivores and other threats. Now, then, for the links:

As if the renders weren't proof of progress enough, the DI staff has stated that soon, there will be demonstration videos up for the public to view. These videos will show the public the dazzling maps and models they can expect to see while playing the game. It will definitely bring about much more anticipation from the public.

On a final note: to get the game to its final release stage at a quicker rate, the DI staff is in need of texture artists. Not only would it help to approach the final release date faster, but it would also help RRDFRaptorRed maintain her sanity, since she is currently the only texture artist on the team... not to mention the person responsible for models, riggings and... well, textures. Also, positions are open for mappers, animators, and coders. For more openings, just click the Help Wanted link.
